The school calendar for this year has been distributed to all families and there is a link to the calendar on the website.

We are delighted to work again this year with the Cork Academy/Music Generation. Welcome to Shauna McCullough who will teach music to 3rd, 4th  5th and 6th to include brass instruments, glockenspiels, ukuleles and recorders. We are very pleased to have Edel McDonnell with us to teach music to  2nd class using the Kodaly method. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to learn music from experts in their respective fields. Well done to the pupils in 4th class who have been chosen to play the brass instruments this year. Hopefully they will be as talented as our 5th and 6th class pupils. They are a hard act to follow! Our brass band is expanding year on year.

Welcome to Senior Speech and Language Therapist and her team of student  speech and language therapists from U.C.C. who come to the school, twice a year, for two blocks of speech and language therapy with the children.

Thanks also to the Happy Talk Team who are working so hard with the Early Start and the Junior Infant classes. The parents are hugely supportive of the scheme and have turned out in huge numbers for the classes on Wednesdays.

Thanks to the parents who joined us on the Action Team for Partnership. We are currently working on how school and home can work together on the teaching of measurement in Maths.

We are going for our fourth Green Flag this year and the theme for this flag is "travel". Thanks to the teachers for taking charge and to all the pupils who are always full of great ideas at our meetings. Our Action Day took place on Friday 20th October, we hope all pupils will continue to travel to school in a "Green Way". Thanks to Lisa from An Taisce for all her support and encouragement.

Sciath na Scol training has started for the boys and the girls, a big thank you to the teachers involved. The girls reached the final yet again but unfortunately we were beaten by a point. It was a thrilling encounter and our girls played their hearts out. Well done to the team and their coached.

Our Community Band  played in City Hall for Culture Night, we are very proud of the band members from Scoil na Croise Naofa.

Everyone enjoyed reading our two chosen books for "One Book One Week" and the project culminated with a quiz and prizegiving in the Community Centre. The pupils particularly enjoyed the visit of Tony who gave a fasinating presentation on birds of prey. Thanks to all the parents who sent in some amazing and creative projects for the competition. They are currently on display on the corridor towards the Parents' Room.

The Lord Mayor visited  Scoil na Croise Naofa on October 25th and he was delighted with our rendition of the National Anthem and "The Banks". The children were all delighted to meet the Lord Mayor and the Lady Mayoress and he gave them all their homework off as they were so good.

Closing for midterm Monday 30th October to Friday 3rd November inclusive, returning to school on Monday 6th November 2017.
